“Festival of Fools”: Four Programs for Shaffy Melkweg Paradiso theatre troupe in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 4-20-June 1976

De Melkweg (the Milky Way), was a theater troupe formed in 1970 in a derelict milk factory off Lijnbaansgracht, in Amsterdam, Later the name of a dance music venue at the same location. Nearby, an old church was also converted into a music venue?the Paradiso--most noted for its concerts featuring international artists. From 1975-1984, Shaffy Melkweg Paradiso was host to the annual Festivals of Fools, ?celebrations of art, film, music, workshops, street performers, & experimental theater that brought together artists from all over the world. The name was chosen because ?the fool is one of the more meaningful characters is theatre history?the individual who?at times will make you laugh or cry?and allow the audience to share ideas, thoughts, & smiles?? This lot consists of 1 main program & 3 supplements (2e jaargang nr 1-3 Vol2, Numbers 1-3) ), each with colorfully decorated thin paper wrappers, staple bindings, 8 pages. The main program, with artwork by Gielijn Escher (unattributed), is in Good condition: staples missing, some tearing at both top & bottom edges of center fold. Significant edgewear/insect damage to top & spine-side edges of both front & back covers, interior pristine with just a tad of wear to top edges. The Supplements are all Near Fine, with just the slightest tanning, else unmarked. Staples secure with no rust. !
