Añadir al carritoCondición: Very good plus. First edition thus. First paperback edition of this tale of a fearful and conscience-bound police detective undone by pagan lechery, basis for The Wicker Man and an influence on countless folk horror variations on its themes. Pinner first conceived of RITUAL as a treatment for a screenplay, ultimately adapting his story into a novel at the urgings of his agent and selling the film rights to Christopher Lee over one fateful lunch in 1971. From there, WICKER MAN screenwriter Anthony Shaffer adapted the material into its best-known form, changing the location from Cornwall to Summerisle and drastically altering the ending, but retaining the Robert Gravesian folk mythology and Dennis Wheatleyesque occult horrors that gave the story such lasting appeal in all its forms (not counting the Nicholas Cage remake, about which the less said the better.) First published in hardcover the year before, all early editions are now scarce. 7'' x 4.25''. Original pictorial wrappers. 221, [2] pages. Small chip to lower corner of back cover; some creasing to front cover. Small closed tear to page 221. Light edgewear.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First edition. Jacket by Peter Edwards. Top and bottom page edges modestly foxed, front fly with a small light stain and tiny hole, bright and very good or better in a somewhat edgeworn, very good or better dust jacket with a couple of nicks, and a tiny bit of internal foxing; there are the tiniest bubbles in the jacket lamination, but without the delamination in the gutters often seen in this title. A presentable copy of the author's first novel, basis for the cult film *The Wicker Man* starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, and Britt Ekland. Much scarcer than the later novelization co-written by Anthony Shaffer from his screenplay for the film.

Añadir al carritoHard Cover. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Dust Jacket. (Finders Keepers Records 2011). First UK Edition Thus. Publisher's black boards with silver titles to the spine. A very fine copy in like dustwrapper. As new. NB: basis for the British folk-horror film The Wicker Man. This is a faithful facsimile of the first edition produced by an independent record label specialising in folk music and now almost as rare as the first edition from 1967. A deluxe hardback edition of the re-release of a true modern rarity and historical keystone in occult fiction and cinematic pop culture returns. Shrouded in the same brand of mystery and contradiction that forms its tangled plot, Ritual is commonly recognised by cult cinema fanatics as the original seed that spawned the towering movie enigma, The Wicker Man. Near Fine witha hint of foxing to edges, literary agency (Jonathan Clowes Ltd.) bookplate on front free endpaper; in a bright, unsunned Near Fine dust jacket with a little of the laminate lifting that seems to plague these jackets in its gutters, small scuff along spine edge, unclipped. A very nice copy of the novel that inspired the 1973 classic The Wicker Man, a "folk horror" film with a strong cult following and slow but steadily-growing chorus of critical acclaim. It was the British actor/author's first novel, quickly falling out of print.
