Otto volumi in nove tomi in folio, pp. 5-600 pagine a volume, 105 bellissime tavole cromolitografiche, legature in mezza pelle verde con ricchi fregi e titoli in oro ai dorsi, ai piatti fregi a secco. I volumi sono in buone condizioni fatte eccezione per il volume ottavo che a causa di una gora di umidità ai piatti presenta una fragilità alla cerniera superiore. I restanti volumi presentano leggere spellature ai dorsi ed alcuni difetti alle cuffie superiori. Juan Vilanova y Piera (Valencia, 1821-Madrid, 7 giugno 1893) è stato un geologo e paleontologo spagnolo, punto di riferimento in paleontologia, geologia e preistoria nella seconda metà del XIX secolo. Pubblicò diverse opere in differenti ambiti. Interessante in quest' opera l'ampio prologo in cui espone la teoria di Darwin alcuni anni prima della pubblicazione della prima traduzione spagnola de L'origine della specie (1877).
