In good condition, leather is scuffed, raised boards are as well. Gilt work on spine is intact, but faded. Previous owner's name on front title page. Text block is tanned and a bit dingy, but unmarked. Back board has rodent and or worm damage on bottom left corner. Top of spine has segment of leather missing exposing binding. Please see photos. Roger I of Sicily and or The Great Count, was a Norman nobleman who became the first Count of Sicily from 1071 to 1101. He was a member of the House of Hauteville, and his descendants in the male line continued to rule Sicily down to 1194. He participated in several military expedition against the Emirate of Sicily beginning in 1061. In 1091 he conquered Malta. The a state he created was merged with the Duchy of Apulia in 1127 and became the Kingdom of Sicily in 1130. He became master of a the insular church. The papacy, favoring a prince who had recorded Sicily from the Greeks and Muslims, in 1098 granted Roger and his heirs the Apostolic Legateship of the island. ***** FORN-TUB0004-0224-HK.
