This catalog of documents at Welbeck Abbey, home of the Duke of Portland, contains many portraits and facsimiles. The boards and spine are worn, and the end board has split from the spine at top and bottom.

With the bookplate of the City of Leeds Public Library to the front pastedown, a library stamp to the reverse of the title-page and several blindstamps throughout the volume. Compiled by the notable librarian, S. Arthur Strong. Acting as the librarian to both the House of Lords and at Chatsworth for the Duke of Devonshire, Strong was also a professor at University College London. Letters features in the volume are from a variety of source and many notable figure such as Godolphin, Joseph Addison, James II, George II and Edmund Burke among many others. With portraits of William, First Earl of Portland, Wiliiam, Third Duke of Portland and William Henry, Fourth Duke of Portland. With the booksellers label of Henry Walker to the front pastedown. Illustrated throughout with 3 portraits and 25 facsimiles throughout. Collated complete. Sadly one plate is detached but present. In a quarter morocco binidng. Externally generally smart. Rubbing to the joints and to the spine. Bumping to the extremities. Library number to the tail of the spine. Rubbing to the front and rear board, with the cloth starting to lift to towards the leather binding, to the rear board. Bookplate to the front pastedown, and a library plate to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound, with one plate detached but present to page 166. Pages are generally clean, with instance of light offsetting caused by the plates. Numerous library blindstamps throughout the volume, notably to each of the plates. Very Good. book.
