Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's grey cloth with black and red lettering to spine and chess piece pictorial to cover in original pictorial jacket. (Betts: 29-41) First edition. It contains an introduction by Fischer with an account of his chess career from May 1955 to May 1958. Fourteen annotated games (thirteen from the 1957-58 United States Championship and one from the 1956 Rosenwald Tournament) and his twenty one games, without notes, from the 1958 Portoroz Intentional Tournament. Robert James Fischer was an American chess grandmaster and the eleventh World Chess Champion. Many consider him to be the greatest chess player of all time. Fischer showed great skill in chess from an early age; at 13, he won a brilliancy known as "The Game of the Century". At age 14, he became the US Chess Champion, and at 15, he became both the youngest grandmaster up to that time and the youngest candidate for the World Championship. At age 20, Fischer won the 1963-64 US Championship with 11 wins in 11 games, the only perfect score in the history of the tournament. His book My 60 Memorable Games (1969), is regarded as a classic work of chess literature. He won the 1970 Interzonal Tournament by a record 3 1/2 point margin, and won 20 consecutive games, including two unprecedented 6-0 sweeps, in the Candidates Matches. In July 1971, he became the first official FIDE number-one-rated player. Fischer won the World Chess Championship in 1972, defeating Boris Spassky of the USSR, in a match held in Reykjavik, Iceland. Publicized as a Cold War confrontation between the US and USSR, it attracted more worldwide interest than any chess championship before or since. In 1975, Fischer refused to defend his title when an agreement could not be reached with FIDE, chess's international governing body, over one of the conditions for the match. Under FIDE rules, this resulted in Soviet GM Anatoly Karpov, who had won the qualifying Candidates' cycle, being named the new world champion by default. Condition: Previous owner's stamp to front end paper. Jacket with some closed edge tears and creases, spine end chipped and scuffed else a very good copy in like jacket.

Signed by both contestants. First Hungarian edition. The World Chess Championship 1972 was a match for the World Chess Championship between challenger Bobby Fischer of the United States and defending champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union. The match took place in the Laugardalsholl arena in ReykjavÃk, Iceland, and has been dubbed the Match of the Century. Fischer became the first American born in the United States to win the world title, and the second American overall (Wilhelm Steinitz, the first world champion, became a naturalized American citizen in 1888). Fischer's win also ended, for a short time, 24 years of Soviet domination of the World Championship. The first game was played on July 11, 1972. The last game (the 21st) began on August 31, was adjourned after 40 moves, and Spassky resigned the next day without resuming play. Fischer won the match 12 1/2 - 8 1/2, becoming the eleventh undisputed World Champion. Condition: Signed by both contestants on half title, light edge wear else a very good to fine copy. Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. 1 page handwritten protocol (in Sherwin's hand) of the game Fischer  Sherwin in the 9th round of the 15th US Chess Championship in New York on December 29th. 1962. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/4") original score signed by Fischer. This was Robert Fischer's fifth win of the title, and this tournament also served as the Zonal Tournament. Fischer, Reshevsky and Evans all lost their first round games. This was Fischer's first loss in a US Championship. This would require him to play catch-up to Arthur Bisguier, who held the lead until round 9, when they were tied at 6.5 points. They both drew in round 10 and had to face each other in the final round, where Fischer won to take the title, and Bisguier took second place. Tying for third were Reshevsky, Evans and Addison. This required that they meet in a playoff to decide the third spot in the Amsterdam Interzonal (1964). Reshevsky defeated both opponents 1.5/2 to earn the spot. Bisguier, having finished second, was entitled to go to the Interzonal. However, he later agreed to play an eight-game match with Benko for the Interzonal spot. Benko won 4.5-1.5, and accordingly went to the Interzonal instead of Bisguier. Condition: The sheet is browned, somewhat stained, has signs of wear and tears on the edges. With loss in the upper right corner. The sheet had been folded several times else about very good. Signed by Author(s).

I have seen the biographical section and I can tell you that it is the typical run of vicious personal slanders à la Ralph Ginzburg []"Bradys biography Profile of a Prodigy. The Life and Games of Bobby Fischer" was published in 1973 by David McKay in New York.Autograph letters by Fischer are extremely rare.

One page score sheet (10 1/4" x 4 3/4") of the game between Aleksandar Matanovic and Bobby Fisher in round eight, March 31, a Sicilian Defense: Najdorf. Zagreb (Fianchetto) Variation (B91) ending in a 43 move draw in Matanovic's hand and signed by both contestants and the arbitrator. After more than sixty years, the city of Monte Carlo in the principality of Monaco hosted a new annual series of international chess tournaments beginning in 1967. More than 10 grandmasters and masters were invited to participate in the round robin event, but circumstances limited the number who could attend. The French master Pierre Rolland died in a car accident, Klaus Viktor Darga cancelled on business grounds, Florin Gheorghiu was invited but couldn't get a visa in time, and Wolfgang Unzicker telegraphed at the last minute that he could not come. Finally, the current world champion Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian also withdrew at the last minute. He objected to Fischer being granted an extra $2,000 appearance fee. The final list of participants included former world champion Vasily Smyslov and Efim Geller from the Soviet Union; Bobby Fischer and William Lombardy from the United States; Bent Larsen from Denmark; Svetozar Gligoric and Aleksander Matanovic from Yugoslavia; Gyozo Forintos from Hungary; and Volf Bergraser and Guy Mazzoni from France. This was another important triumph for Fischer as he placed clear first ahead of Smyslov and Geller, despite dropping a point and a half to both players. Although Smyslov finished undefeated with +4, it was only good enough for clear second behind Fischer. (Chessgames). Aleksandar Matanović is a Serbian chess Grandmaster. Awarded the GM title in 1955, Matanović was junior champion of Yugoslavia in 1948 and Yugoslav national champion in 1962 (joint with Minić), 1969 and 1978 (he took second place in 1951, 1956, 1959 and 1967).
