Mueller's first entry into the series, this was one of two Hanuman titles that faced obscenity charges by the Indian government, nearly stopping its shipment to New York. Cookie Mueller was a writer, but perhaps more prominently, a producer of the good life in New Yorkin the specifically queer valence that gave the city both its shine and grit in the 1980s. Her life and work crossed that of John Waters (who credits Mueller with the name for Female Trouble), Nan Goldin, Peter Hujar, Gary Indiana, Penny Arcade, David Wojnarowicz, and too many others to name.
