In 1896 La Fuerza de la Razón was the first anarchist magazine to take up the freethinking struggle in pursuit of science as an element of liberation from obscurantism. Alongside these were the anticlerical caricaturesque magazines El Azote (1909-1913), El Burro (1918-1919) and El Peludo (1921-1929) which continued in a libertarian key an old genre whose antecedents in Argentina can be traced back to the mid-19th century.
