Nelson Byrd Woltz's designs transcend mere decoration, they are both technologically innovative and environmentally sound and most importantly; they inspire people to gather together, connecting with nature and each other. Nelson Byrd Woltz: Landscapes is divided into four sections: Garden, Campus, Park and Farm; projects include a Manhattan rooftop garden that provides a haven for visiting bird species; a renewed stream valley and pond at the University of Virginia that has become a favourite spot for campus relaxation as well as a model for stormwater management; a large-scale farming operation that has demonstrated its environmental stewardship by returning large portions of its grazing pastures to wildflower meadows; and an animal-friendly new home for the giant pandas, at the National Zoo in Washington DC. Throughout, lush photography documents the pleasures and significance of a landscape architecture grounded in the affinity with nature and the commitment to preserving it.
