Whether or not you believe in the concept of reincarnation, if you are to enjoy this book you will need to keep an open mind. It is not a traditional biography, one in the style of Marilyn Manson's Long Hard Road Out of Hell. You won't find details (either real or invented) of Reznor's sex life, his addictions or bad behavior. Whilst he may be no saint it is, I think, a great shame to reduce a life to simply the nasty bits. The dirty bits. More over, in this respect the ONLY one who can tell these stories with any truth and accuracy is the man himself. So, what can you expect of The Stain of Time? The original notes were prepared for Trent Reznor himself. However at that time he was in a very dark place and to reach him directly was near impossible. His then manager and lawyer had effectively walled him off. Despite my best efforts to present him with details of a past life that may have helped him to lay some demons to rest, well, it just wasn't going to happen. Eventually I took the advice of someone who had once been close to Trent and prepared this book. Once published we could only hope that in time it would find its way into his hands. It was good advice! Reznor's work, past and present, is littered with references to this tragic life - everything from lyrics to set designs. If you are willing to open your mind much will become clear. Did The Stain of Time do it's job and help Reznor if not lay his demon's to rest, at least quiet them? I certainly hope that is so.
Remanon Last: "I like words, the way they grow across a piece of paper, and yes, I prefer a pen to a keyboard. I understand the need for structuring a piece of writing but I'm not good at ahereing to the principle. Even with non-fiction I'm apt to let the subject matter wander off and find its own voice, which is why the finished product may be something completely different to the original idea" "I like cooking the things that grew in my garden, prefer cooking on a woodfired range and a woodstove to central heating. I'm less thrilled with canning when the temperatures soar but seeing the fruits of my labour lining the pantry shelves is food for my soul. I own few pieces of furniture that havent been owned by someone before me and when it comes to animals, well, there's always room for one more". "I'm saddened by the state of the world and often disappointed by those from whom you expect more - but I do believe there is a change that is about to happen. I love to witness the unconcious expression of life through art, words and music - in all their many and various forms. And while I only write about things that interest me I am never more happy than when something I've produced gives pleasure, interests or help to someone else".
