The study of Nazi occultism is crucial to fully understand the history of the Third Reich. This aspect is unfortunately too often neglected by main stream historians. This is wrong since high ranking Nazis, especially those from the dreaded Schutzstaffel (SS), did believe in these myths and theories, no matter how sensational they may sound to modern ears. It does not add anything though to the credibility of such stories to spoil them with material that cannot be verified or, even worse, with lies fabricated in order to please all the fans of paranormal activities. These fabrications are usually re-written in a thousand ways on the internet, by authors who end up adding their own personal touch or interpretation, feeding on each other as makeshift sources. They do not bother with historical truth, never mention their sources "in order to protect them". On the contrary, they produce only science-fiction and horror stories, full of Nazi zombies, undead necromancers, multi-dimensional devices like the now famous Bell (Die Glocke), Hitler's underground lairs in Antarctica and UFOs ready to fly out of the Hollow earth to start a Fourth Reich. But is Nazi occultism just pure fantasy because the subject was tackled in Spielberg's Indiana Jones ? Though historians do still avoid the occult aspect of Nazism, there are nonetheless hard facts about its historical existence. There is a link in the history of mystic and political thought between late 19th century racist ariosophists, the Thule Society and the birth of the National-Socialist Party after WWI. Furthermore, nobody denies nowadays that Himmler liked very much esotericism and thought of himself as a reincarnation of the Germanic king Henry the Fowler. He also founded a pseudo-scientific institute called the Ahnenerbe that was in charge of expeditions as far as Tibet and even searched for the Holy Grail in the South of France. Last but not the least, Himmler was very much interested in the persecution of witches during the Middle Ages, since he counted one of them among his ancestors. After WWII, there were a few fanatic people who managed, by their writings and teachings, to develop a kind a semi-religious version of Nazism that is the basis until these days for neo-Nazi movements throughout the world. We shall therefore also deal with such themes as the Black Sun, the Vril force and other less known Nazi New Age creeds. This book aims at separating historical facts, how occult and strange they can be, from Post War fabrications. The amateur of mysteries and dark secrets will not be disappointed though since in this quest reality is often stranger than fiction.
