About the Author

Author Janice Walters Rawlins was born in Kentucky and raised by her grandparents. She was five years old when she realized she had a passion for writing and telling stories to family members and schoolmates. Being made to sit underneath an apple tree all day when she was a little girl, she started making up stories to escape her difficult childhood. She was a freshman in high school when she started writing short stories. Her English teacher, Mrs. Well's, told her she had a very creative mind and said she should go to college. A life of marriage, childrearing, and working full-time put her dream on hold for many years. With a bachelor's degree in Social Work and an internship at a shelter for the homeless, Janice went about her life as usual, and then came the discovery of ovarian cancer. Wanting to turn her negative situation into a positive, Janice began writing as a way to overcome the depression of her illness. After completing her first book, "Blood Darters," a mystery novel, Janice began writing "Tattoo Granny, a comedy dedicated to all grandparents who have a special bond with their grandchildren. Janice is married to her long-time sweetheart of thirty-three years, Dean Rawlins. They have a daughter and one grandson. Janice says, "I have a wonderful family who supports me and loves me. I hope my readers will find my short novels interesting page turners." "Blood Darters" was Janice's first novel. She is presently working on her second novel, a sequel titled, "Return of the Blood Darters." She has also written a children's book titled Doonie the Rainbow dog."
