This is the story of the musical group, The Chordettes from their formation in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1946 thru 2012. The Chordettes were one of the most popular “Girl Groups” of the 1950s. Their hits included Mr. Sandman, Lollipop, Born To Be With You, Zorro, and Eddie My Love. The girls from Sheboygan had the honor of being the first act on the first episode of Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand” TV show. They also made the first ever music video. Included in the book is information on their days singing barbershop songs at various SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of BarberShop Quartet Singing in America) shows throughout the United States and their work as regular members on the Arthur Godfrey TV and Radio shows. Over the years, nine different women performed as members of the Chordettes. Five of these ladies were from Sheboygan. The photo seen here was taken in 1959. The Chordettes shown left to right are: Lynn, Carol, Janet, and Jinny (Virginia). These are the four women that were with the Chordettes the longest. It’s also one of the few pictures where they are not all wearing the same outfits.
