James Bacchus, Chairman of the Global Trade Practice Group of Greenberg Traurig, Washington DC and former Member and Chairman (2002-2003) of the WTO Appellate Body

'The book of all books on WTO dispute settlement issues.' Ambassador Julio Lacarte Muró of Uruguay, former Member and Chairman (1996–1997) of the WTO Appellate Body

'... an ideal introduction to the World Trade Organization legal system. It focuses on the main issues without shying away from the complexities. It is both thorough and clear and explains the legal principles while drawing out the underlying policies. In short, it is a masterful work.' Prof.dr. Marco Bronckers, Partner, WilmerHale, Brussels, Belgium and Professor of WTO and EU International Trade Law, University of Leiden, The Netherlands

Former Member and chairman (2001) of the WTO Appellate Body and former Director-General (1997–1995 at the European Commission

'The Law and Policy of the World Trade Organization is like a reasoned discussion with an old and wise friend, in which one general agrees, or, where agreement is not possible, finds good reasons to respect the opposing positions of one's colleague.... [it] is so cogent and clear that it might take the place of classroom study for more mature and self-motivated students of trade law. It will make an extraordinarily useful textbook for students and an indispensable handbook for practitioners. ' Journal of International Economic Law

'... the standard text in its field ...'. Justice Florentino Feliciano, Senior Counsel, SyCip Salazasr Hernandez & Gatmaitan, Manila; former Member and Chairman of the WTO Appellate Body; former Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines

'Wonderfully written, clear, and thoughtful.' Joanne Scott, Visiting Professor, Harvard Law School

Reseña del editor

This is primarily a textbook for graduate and upper-level undergraduate students of law. However, practising lawyers and policy-makers who are looking for an introduction to WTO law will also find it invaluable. The book covers both the institutional and substantive law of the WTO. While the treatment of the law is often quite detailed, the main aim of this textbook is to make clear the basic principles and underlying logic of WTO law and the world trading system. Each section contains questions and assignments, to allow students to assess their understanding and develop useful practical skills. At the end of each chapter there is a helpful summary, as well as an exercise on specific, true-to-life international trade problems.
